Types of Classes

Throughout history, yoga has been split into various “Schools” focusing on different aspects of yoga. Each branch is of the same tree, the tree of the self. Yoga means Union. Try and find out which one is for you.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is a practice which increases physical health and strength, emotional balance, heightens sensory awareness, enhances intuition and creativity.
It leads you to greater peace and fulfilment in your daily activities and offers you a deeper sense of your own spirituality. Its main purpose is the control of the energy through awareness by combining postures, pranayama (breathing techniques) mantras (word or sound), mudras (body energy looks) music and meditation in order to break patterns, cleanse the subconscious mind, rejuvenate the nervous system, obtain deep relaxation, self-healing and elevation. The principle is Poke, Provoke and Elevate. Balancing body and mind enables you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul.
No previous experience in yoga is required for you to experience it and achieve results with your very first class. Kundalini Yoga focuses on the glandular system, optical nerve, sciatic nerve, on the spine and the central nervous system. The vibration and transformational sound of our symphonic gong is often played during our classes to deepen relaxation and meditation and to restore the nervous system. Wear modest, comfortable, light coloured clothes.
Every class begins with the Adi Mantra: Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo. This mantra opens the potential to relate to state of flowing creativity and higher consciousness. Each class involves the use of physical asana, breath work, mantra, mudra, and deep meditation. Although the sequence of exercises in each class are different – all the exercises work to align practitioners into a state of harmony. All classes end with chanting the mantra Sat Nam which is to reaffirm your authentic self.

Sound Healing Gong Bath

We live in a world full of sounds and noises. Sometimes we tolerate them, sometimes we are annoyed by them and sometimes they are driving us mad. But sound is also known for its healing power. Even before we are born, we are influenced by the sounds our mothers experience and sound is our first connection with the outside world. This is why sound has a huge impact on our physical and subtle body; and it is not only the sound but the vibration it creates. The Gong sounds, which we use in this particular class, have an impact on our nervous system by regenerating it, working on the parasympathetic nervous system and slowing down the waves of our minds bringing a sense of ease and peace. Our symphonic Gong work on all levels and frequencies and it has an impact on our physical body since our body is made up of 70% water. The Gong Bath helps cleanse the subconscious mind, cleanses your fears and melts your ego because: “Your ego is not your amigo” YB During class, the position you sit in can be a meditative one or corpse pose. For most of us a gong bath class it feels like a long deep nap.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga restores the balance between masculine and feminine, moon and sun, between the mind and soul. During Hatha Yoga classes we practice asanas (postures) and breathing techniques to balance the two extremes of our body in a harmonious way. This class is adapted for an average beginner practice to get a healthy mind in a healthy body.

Restorative Yoga

Relaxation is the key word throughout this class. If you need mental, emotional and physical bliss, the Restorative class is the one for you. Physical relaxation is achieved by using helpful items such as a specially designed pillow, which by its positioning, takes over the muscular effort.

Yin Yoga

This yoga style was created to balance the Yang yoga styles. In fewer words, this is a practice for the ligaments and fascia, not for the muscles. Yin classes are characterised by a prolonged period of holding a pose (minimum 3 minutes) and by the serenity that brings deep changes on both physical and emotional levels. Even if it seems like a passive and easy yoga style, it can be a challenge, because of the longer period through which you need to hold the pose.

Breathing Techniques/ Pranayama

Pranayama means the control of the life force. This life force moves into our physical body through breath. The breathing techniques which are used in pranayama as a practice aim to expand the life force and control the well being of our physical, mental and emotional body. As we start to practice breathing techniques we participate in cleaning the nadis (energetical channels) in our body releasing physical stiffness, emotional blockages and mental patterns. As we go deeper in the advanced stages of the practice of pranayama we can transcend these 3 layers of our body and expand the pranic force into our deeper being, connecting to our true self. The breath can serve as a wonderful tool, be it on the yoga mat or in the day to day life, which can be used to improve your state of mind, brighten your soul, or healing oneself. Being more conscious of your breath, you become conscious of your experience on Earth.

Meditation

Various Types of Meditation: Techniques- Mindfulness, Guided Meditation, Kundalini Active Meditation.
